Yards and Gardens

The Yards and Gardens project commenced as a partnership between Norwood-Morialta High School, UnitingCare Wesley Adelaide and ACH Group. The Foundation for Older Australians provided seed funding for this project.

The program brought together school students from Norwood Morialta High School and older people living at ACH Goup's Housing Site to design and install water wise gardens.

For 10 weeks the 12 students worked hard designing, planning, researching and then installing the gardens in conjunction with the residents. Students also attended a certificate 1 course with Conservation Australia before commencing on-site work.

Throughout the project residents and students communicated with letters and meetings and organised a project completion celebration complete with sausage sizzle and certificate presentation.

Students particularly enjoyed re-visiting with residents to show off their finished gardens to their peers, invited guests and media.

If you would like to be involved with Yard and Gardens please call Sally Bower on 0429 029 529.
