Respite Options and Choices

So what is Respite?

  • Respite is defined as anything that gives carers a break while providing valued support for the person in receipt of care.
  • The aim of respite is to improve the quality of life for the carer and person in receipt of care.

What does Respite Options and Choices provide?

These programs are designed around individual respite needs for carers and older people living in Onkaparinga, Holdfast Bay, Mitcham, Unley, Marion, East Torrens, Burnside, Campbelltown, Adelaide, Norwood, Enfield, Prospect and Walkerville areas.

  • A comprehensive range of individualised respite possibilites, tailored to the needs of older people and their carers.
  • Respite that is developed around the expressed needs of the carer while establishing and maintaining valued support for the person in receipt of care.
  • Regular breaks for the carer from their caring role.
  • Opportunities to enable the older person in receipt of care to receive support to pursue a valued interest or an activity on an ongoing regular basis.
  • Support to carers in their ongoing care of an older person.
  • Links various community services to provide more comprehensive packages of respite and support where required.
  • Respite is provided by trained, screened volunteer companions and where required, by paid careworkers.

Who is eligible to receive support from Respite Options?

Anyone who is caring for an older person aged 60 years or over.

Sunlife Exchange a Success!

During May a team of twelve ACH group staff enjoyed a ten day international cultural exchange to Nagano and Nagoya in Japan as part of a scholarship program with Japanese aged care provider Sun Life Group.
