Programs

The Foundation for Older Australians funds a number of programs that greatly help older South Australians, focussing on lifestyle, fitness and the arts. Some of our programs include:

Lifestyle – get involved!

  • Sing for Joy is a multicultural and intergenerational project that encourages participants to learn singing techniques, a range of songs and to perform for local audiences.
  • The Yards and Gardens project brings together school students and older people living at ACH Group's Housing Site to design and install water wise gardens. The students assisted with designing, planning, researching and then installing the gardens in conjunction with the residents.
  • Teaching to date technology including broadband and Skype to older people. One venture is the Internet Cafe at Kapara, Glenelg.
  • Three moveable, wheelchair accessible, raised garden plots for growing flowers and vegetables for older people living in Yankalilla Centre together. Students from the local high school, help tend the garden beds.
  • Pots of Cheer sees students from McLaren Vale Primary School growing and distributing "pots of flowers with seasonal colour" to older South Australians. There is valuable interaction, friendship and learning of valuable life skills generated in the process.

Fitness – get fit!

  • Bootcamp is a stimulating, fun and high impact group exercise program held outdoors.
  • Two fitness parks, with outdoor gym equipment to enable older people to keep fit along with the local community – at Yankalilla and Rostrevor – with two more sites planned for the southern and northern regions.

The arts – get creative!

  • Young Ones photography group supporting people with an interest in photography to prepare and exhibit their work.
  • The Men’s Shed Project enables older people living in ACH Group residential facilities to maintain or renew skills and pleasures in woodwork and metalwork or to just sit back and relax with mates.
